Wood Post Caps and Turned Balusters

Wood Post Caps and Turned Balusters

The turned balusters in this picture are the same size as a 2×2 picket. Since the profile is not very pronounced, from a distance these balusters are nearly indistinguishable from 2x2s. Photo Credit

Hi, plans for a new covered back deck call for split rail design. What I don’t like is having one looking nice and the other side looking like two boards nailed to a 4×4. Any suggestions,2×4 top, 2×6 back side between each 4×4. Then another 2×6 at a measured distance below the top rail. I’m trying to find a design that looks very nice for 4x4s.Did the spindle thing years ago. Too much maintenance.
    Thank a bunch!!
